MATTHEW STEFFENS

Matthew Steffens is a NYC based director, choreographer and performer and is honored to part of BC BEAT for the 8th time. Most recently, he served as Associate Choreographer on the Kennedy Center’s new production of CHESS. Previous credits include Broadway/Off Broadway:  DOCTOR ZHIVAGO (Associate Choreographer); QUEEN OF THE NIGHT (Drama Desk Award - Associate Choreographer / Resident Director), PRETTY HUNGRY (Public Theater - Choreographer), BOUNTIFUL (R.Evolucion Latina - Choreographer) , BC BEAT (Choreographer). Regionally, he has directed and/or choreographed VIOLET, GUYS & DOLLS, 9 to 5, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, HAIRSPRAY, THE PAJAMA GAME . Theaters include The Guthrie Theater, Playmakers Repertory Company, The Mountain Playhouse as well as internationally in China on the original Chinese musical Princess Butterfly.

As a performer he has appeared on Broadway in PROMISES, PROMISES, WOMEN ON THE VERGE and has danced, fought and flown his way through 14 operas at the Metropolitan Opera. Tours include WEST SIDE STORY, CONTACT, BEAUTY & THE BEAST and he has been seen on film and TV in The Last Five Years, Across the Universe, Black Box, Smash, Kennedy Center Awards - Chita Rivera, Pan Am (Assoc.
